What is Second Language Editing?
I specialize in proofreading and editing documents of all lengths, written by people for whom English is their Second Language (ESL). Papers written by ESL clients usually require more than simple punctuation and grammar corrections. These writers also need assistance with word choice and with sentence structure. They need Second Language Editing.
Even though Second Language writers are knowledgeable about the content of their documents and understand the basic mechanics of English writing, they often need help with the finer points of communication.

I combine my Business English Training experience and many years of academic, newspaper/ magazine and website publishing, to assist English as a Second Language writers to polish their work for publication.
I have worked for the past two years with Second Language English speakers in marketing and design in Bay Area tech companies including Google, Youtube, ArcTouch and Stanfy. Previously I worked in Berlin with executive managers in Deutsche Bank, Telekom Deutschland and Vattenfall Europe, editing presentations, contracts, technical information and other translated documentation.
In the academic field, my education as a biologist makes me especially qualified to work on scientific papers. In Germany and Turkey, I also assisted medical professionals in preparing articles for peer review and journal publication.
It was a great pleasure to work with Laurel on my recent article on Women Architects in Modernism for a professional national newsletter. She was aware of typical mistakes an ESL person of German origin would make and suggested excellent corrections. Laurel is easy-going, professional and pleasant to work with and pays great attention to detail.
